Los Angeles Eats Vol. 2

Volume 2 is finally here! These are places I went to during my birthday week so yes this is coming out late BUT I think this is the best the LA Eats series is going to get because I went to such amazing places.

Craig’s - 9.6

Craig’s was worth. the. hype. It was so amazing. The vibes in the restaurant were so good, not too loud, and the food was even better.

The bread deserves it’s own section because it was the BEST bread I’ve ever had at a restaurant. It was like a cut up pita bread shape vibe and was drenched in butter garlic oil goodness. The bread was chewy and just so so GOOD. We finished two baskets and I could’ve eaten a third.

We ordered way too much food but started with the Caesar which was basic but in a good way. Honestly that’s kind of what everything was like. They don’t try too hard. We also got the meatballs as an appetizer.

By the time my entree came I was full which was unfortunate because it was so good. I got the scallops that come with parmesan gnocchi, mushrooms, asparagus, and a cognac cream. The gnocchi was the best I’ve ever had. It was a lot of simple flavors that came together PERFECTLY. The thing is… this entree is $52. However, I would get it again in a heartbeat.

We also got brussels sprouts which I literally only had one of because I was so full. It was good though. We ended with their vegan ice cream with a chocolate shell and coconut flakes. Could’ve gone without this, I’ve had better vegan ice cream.

Definitely want to go back and would every day for the bread if I could afford it. This was my favorite place I went to this week.

Pedaler’s Fork - 9.4

This is a restaurant in Calabasas that 100% deserves this high rating. We went for brunch on Father’s Day and there was about a 40 minute wait and we got a table on their patio.

First, we ordered the breakfast burrito (with guacamole on the side because I think I’m allergic to avocados) with a side of fruit. Burrito was good but I don’t love burritos to begin with… but the fruit bowl? A masterpiece. This wasn’t your typical fruit bowl, it was BEAUTIFUL and was mostly berries which is rare. It had pieces of grapefruit that were perfectly cut and it was amazing.

We also ordered The Friday sandwich with fries. It was smoked brisket, white cheddar, pickled red onion, arugula, herb aioli, on grilled sourdough and it was sooo good. Will get this again when I plan to go back this Saturday.

Catch LA - 8.2

High rating for the vibes. I went for dinner the day before my birthday and it was great for the occasion. We asked for a table with a view so we got sat on the patio which I liked because it was quieter than inside.

The drink (I’m 21 now so get ready for drink reviews) was called a Detox Retox and it tasted like a green juice which is such an LA thing but I really liked it. It had Altos Olmeca Tequila, Matcha, Fresh Cucumber, Mint, Lime.

The food wasn’t my favorite which saddens me to say. The Baby Gem Caesar was really good and was probably my favorite thing we got. Crispy Shrimp came second, everything else fell short. I was so excited for the crispy tuna but it was too spicy for me (which I know is a personal problem). We also got the Catch Roll which was crab, salmon, and miso-honey but it was boring to me. Of course, we finished with “The Carnival” which is a bunch of donuts. They wrote happy birthday on the plate so points for that.

Overall, not dying to go back but was definitely an experience.

Urth Caffe - 7.3

The trendiest place of my middle school years! This is the 3rd time I’ve been here but previously I didn’t get a meal like this, so here’s how it went!

I got the black tea boba with almond milk, and it was sooo good. I always ask for my boba for 100% sweetness but Urth didn’t have that option. However, it was very sweet. I loved it, it was too sweet for my roommate, Sophie though.

Then I got the tuna sandwich with a side salad. I was really in the mood for tuna today so I loved it, but probably would try something different next time. The side salad was boring but there’s not an option for fries or any other side.

Superba Food + Bread (Breakfast) - 7.1/10

Told y’all I’d be back here for breakfast! I was violently hungover this morning (it was my 21st birthday okay) but I still got their breakfast sandwich that has fried eggs, applewood smoked bacon, cheddar, and watercress with a side of crispy potatoes. Our waitress recommended the cinnamon rolls which we should’ve tried based on their bread from when I went there for dinner. The breakfast potatoes were really good but I didn’t finish the sandwich… more likely caused by reasons not regarding the food. I wanted to sit outside but the wait was longer so we sat inside again but still good vibes!

Kith treats - 7/10

Outside of the Kith store, there’s an ice cream shop where they mix a bunch of toppings (mostly cereals) to make a unique ice cream flavor. A lot of famous people have flavors and we got The Bam Bam by Action Bronson which has Rice Crispy Treats, Cookie Crisp, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Kit Kat, Crushed Oreo, and Marshmallow Charms. There’s definitely too much going on to taste any of that individually but it’s still really good.

Mon Roll House (to go) - 7/10

This is the sushi we picked up in Santa Monica for my birthday picnic on the beach! Salmon Nigiri was my favorite, as always. They had spicy tuna crispy rice which also gave them points and the cherry blossom was my favorite roll we got. Tuna was okay but maybe I just don’t like tuna. Also they didn’t give us chopsticks. However, very happy we chose it!

Fiish - 5.8/10

Sugarfish vibes but less fancy inside the restaurant, but similar price. It was good, but not to die for. We met the owner inside and he had cute dogs so points for that.

Mirame - 3.7/10

This is a Mexican restaurant in Beverly hills and I wasn’t a fan. The menu was weird and the stuff we did get I didn’t like. Eli liked his drink though.
